FAQ

Taynie period panties

Taynie is functional underwear for menstruation and bladder weakness. It is your perfect replacement or supplement to pads and tampons. Taynie can be worn during your period, for light incontinence, in the postpartum period or during sports.

With the help of our sophisticated technology, the liquid is immediately guided inside and securely enclosed by the Taynie membrane. An additional moisture-impermeable protective layer ensures that your Taynie is leak-proof and gives you a carefree wearing experience.
Our outer membrane is breathable to prevent unwanted odors.

Yes, our period underwear can replace or supplement menstrual hygiene products - it's up to you to decide.

We have different models with different absorbencies so that there is a suitable model for everyone and you can do without other menstrual hygiene products. Depending on how heavily you menstruate, you can of course wear period underwear as a supplement to other products. Our most absorbent model has an absorbency equivalent to that of 6 - 7 normal tampons (70 ml).

When your Taynie is 'full', it will feel much wetter. To start with, it's best to change your Taynie as often as you would tampons or pads.

For hygienic reasons, however, you should not wear it for longer than 8-12 hours.

Taynie period panties are designed to replace up to 7 normal tampons, depending on the model. How often you need to change your period panties depends on how heavy your period is.

We recommend five period pantiesduring your period. This means you can change them once a day and before going to bed if necessary.

It's very simple! After wearing your Taynie, wash it in cold water (to prevent the blood from clotting) and then put it in the machine at max. 60 degrees (ECO wash program), e.g. with dark laundry. Then let them air dry and do not put them in the dryer. You can also wash our briefs at 30 - 40 degrees or use a hygiene rinse aid if necessary.

Our care tips and advice:
- Lower washing temperatures (30 - 40 degrees) can increase the life of the briefs and also save energy.

- Do not use fabric softener (this reduces absorbency).

- Please do not tumble dry or iron (too high temperatures damage the material).

- If possible, use a laundry net. This will extend the life of the briefs as they are protected in the laundry net. Of course, you can also do this with other items of clothing in your wardrobe that are more delicate.

- If you suffer from an infection in the genital area, it is advisable to wash the briefs at 60 degrees and/or add a hygiene rinse aid. You should also change your briefs several times a day and combine them with disposable hygiene products if necessary. In this case, it is always advisable to consult a gynecologist.

- When buying your detergent, we recommend using an eco detergent if possible. These detergents not only protect the environment, but are also unscented, allergy-friendly and gentle on the material of your briefs.

Our Taynies can not only absorb blood, but also urine in the case of mild incontinence. They can also be worn during childbirth, for vaginal discharge and during sport to absorb sweat.

Yes, many customers use our Taynies as an additional backup to pads, tampons or cups. Of course, you are also 100% protected at night with our underwear.

No, thanks to selected materials and our 4-layer technology, all liquids are drawn away from the body to the absorbent core at lightning speed. This keeps your skin pleasantly dry and prevents any uncomfortable feeling. Your Taynie also stays dry during sports, as sweat is also drawn into the inside of the briefs.

Our underwear is normal. If you wear a standard 38, a 38 at Taynie will also fit you. There are models where the sizes are different. We always include this information in the description of the models in question. Our size chart will also help you make the right choice.

Yes, the amount of blood loss after childbirth can vary greatly from woman to woman. For the first few weeks after the birth, we recommend our highly absorbent taynies (e.g. Panty and Deluxe).

In most cases, yes! If you suffer from severe period pain or endometriosis, Taynies are just the thing for you. Thanks to our period underwear, blood can flow freely and the risk of toxic shock is reduced. Harmful substances are often used in disposable tampons or pads, which are then in close contact with your mucous membranes for hours and can therefore damage your health. You can find more information about pain during your period here.

Tampons

A major advantage here is the issue of sustainability. A menstruating person uses 17,000 pads or tampons in the course of their life. With washable tampons, this number can be reduced many times over, as you can reuse the product with washable tampons.

Synthetic substances are often added to disposable tampons, but this is not the case with our organic cotton tampons! This can also reduce the risk of toxic shock syndrome. You can find out more about this in the FAQ - Is there a risk of toxic shock syndrome with washable tampons?

Washable tampons are also much cheaper in the long term than disposable tampons, as they have a lifespan of up to four years. This also means that regular trips to the drugstore are a thing of the past

Basically, any menstruating person can use washable tampons.

You should consider whether you want to use a menstrual product that you insert into yourself or not. If you have previously used disposable tampons, washable tampons are a good sustainable alternative.

If you would prefer to use a sustainable menstrual product that is not inserted, we recommend our washable pads or our period panties. Washable tampons can also be worn as a back-up to our period panties or washable pads. They are also suitable for the night as additional protection.

Washable tampons have a lifespan of around four years if they are well cared for. 😊
Dryers and irons should be avoided. In addition, the material should not be rubbed vigorously when washing out, as this can cause small tears in the cotton fibers.

Washable tampons can be washed at up to 90 °C, although 60 °C is completely sufficient.

Before use, the tampons are rolled up and then tied. You roll up the tampons from the long side towards the narrow end. Wrap the return ribbon around the rolled-up tampon several times. Finally, knot the ribbon once. When inserting, make sure that the return ribbon does not disappear. Don't worry - you will find detailed instructions in the tampon packaging.

No lubricant or insertion aid is included.

We have the tampons in three different strengths - medium, extra strong and ultra.

Depending on the thickness, the tampons hold different amounts of liquid. You can roughly compare the amount of liquid with standard disposable tampons. When the tampon is full, the blood is no longer absorbed properly and there is a risk of leakage. The wearing time should not be longer than 6-8 hours.

After use, the tampons should be washed out cold to prevent the blood from clotting. They can then be washed in the washing machine at up to 90°C. However, 60°C is completely sufficient to wash all bacteria out of the tampons and thus extend their life.

After the washing machine, the tampons are air-dried. The tampons do not tolerate tumble dryers and irons very well.

To cut a long story short - yes, but the probability is lower than with disposable tampons!

TSS is a rare but very dangerous organ and circulatory failure that can be caused by germs. Scientists associate TSS with the use of tampons and menstrual cups.

Disposable tampons often contain synthetic substances, chlorine or other chemicals that enter the body during menstruation. In our opinion, chemicals or other substances have no place in the body and should not be introduced. There are also studies that show that the risk of developing TSS can be reduced somewhat if these chemicals are avoided.

Nevertheless, it is important to mention that the tampon should be changed regularly and should not remain in the body for longer than 6 hours. The tampon should be changed promptly after and before going to bed.

Binding

A major advantage here is the issue of sustainability. A menstruating person uses 17,000 pads or tampons in the course of their life. With washable pads, this number can be reduced many times over, as you can reuse the product and save a lot of packaging waste.

Washable pads are also significantly cheaper than disposable pads in the long term, as they have a lifespan of up to seven years. Regular trips to the drugstore are also a thing of the past.

Basically, any menstruating person can use washable pads.

You should consider whether you want to use a menstrual product that you insert into yourself or not. If you have previously used disposable pads, washable pads are a good sustainable alternative.

Washable pads are a good start, especially for teens, as they can simply be placed in the panties. For particularly heavy periods, washable pads can be combined with our period panties or washable tampons.

Washable sanitary towels have a lifespan of around seven years, provided they are well cared for. 😊

Dryers and irons should be avoided. In addition, the material should not be rubbed vigorously when washing out, as this can cause small tears in the cotton fibers.

The washable pads can be washed at up to 60 °C, whereby 30-40 °C is completely sufficient.

With the help of our ingenious technology, the liquid is immediately directed to the inside and securely enclosed by the Taynie membrane. An additional moisture-impermeable protective layer ensures that your pad is leak-proof and gives you a carefree wearing experience.

Our outer membrane is breathable to prevent unwanted odors.

The pads basically fit into any briefs. In the store you will find the pads in different thicknesses, the sizes of the pads also vary depending on the thickness - please refer to the product description.

The pads are not intended for thongs.

Of course, this depends on the strength of your period and the strength of the pad. We stock different strengths, you can use the number of drops we have indicated in the store as a guide. If you start to feel wet, you will notice that the pad is losing its absorbency and should then be changed.

After wearing, the bandage should be washed in cold water to prevent the blood from clotting. It can then be washed in the washing machine at up to 60 °C. However, 30 °C - 40 °C is completely sufficient to wash all bacteria out of the bandage and thus extend its life.

After the washing machine, the sanitary napkin should be air-dried. The sanitary napkin does not tolerate tumble dryers and irons very well.

Both pads are very absorbent. We have developed the ultra night pad especially for the night. It is a little longer than the ultra pad and holds 10 ml more fluid, or 90 ml to be precise.

So you can rest assured that the Taynie pad will also provide you with optimum protection at night.

General questions

Yes, we can guarantee that we do not use controversial or even dangerous chemical additives such as silver ion, zinc pyrithione or titanium oxide and are therefore free from any biocides. You can find out more in our blog post.

Our certificates are genuine: unlike many other manufacturers, our products are verifiably STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified. Issued by the Hohenstein Institute.

Other suppliers often refer to OEKO-TEX certification. However, these alleged certifications and advertising with them are prohibited. If, for example, there is only a company certification but expressly no certification for the entire product itself, any promotional statements in this context are inadmissible. Arguments such as "Oeko-Tex certified sewing companies" or references to the fact that some of the materials used have been certified may be true. However, the requirements are not sufficiently fulfilled to be allowed to advertise with them. Unfortunately, this does not prevent many manufacturers from doing so.

So if you want to be sure, simply check the certificate or label number here: https://www.oeko-tex.com/de/label-check

By the way, our label number is: 15.HCN.75069 (Hohenstein HTTI)

No harmful biocides:We are also one of the very few companies in the world that explicitly do not use additives such as silver ion, zinc pyrithione or titanium oxide. Their antibacterial effect, which is supposed to prevent odors, may sound good at first in advertising messages, but numerous studies and the latest findings now prove their negative consequences for people and the environment. These are now classified as harmful to health by all experts, federal agencies and even the Federal Environment Agency. Especially in connection with period underwear. BUND even goes one step further and recommends in its study that these products be taken off the market. Some suppliers flirt with "sustainability", but it is precisely these biocides that are harmful due to leaching, resistance formation, allergies and damage to skin health.

In addition, studies show that up to 98% of biocides are washed out of the pants after the first few washes. This means that there would be no long-term effect anyway - except perhaps damage to the environment and health.

Scientists and specialists in hygiene and environmental medicine as well as the Federal Environment Agency warn against the use of biocides in menstrual underpants, as contact with the mucous membrane cannot be ruled out with menstrual underwear and they have therefore been classified as potentially dangerous.

Both Dr. Monika Schulze, a specialist in hygiene and environmental medicine at Augsburg University Hospital, and Prof. Dr. Werner Mendling from the German Center for Infections in Gynaecology and Obstetrics share this view and recommend washing the panties at around 60 °C instead.

Thanks to our know-how, our period panties meet the highest hygienic standards without the addition of such chemical additives.

No animal wool - for animal welfare and the environment: If you want to take a broader view of environmental protection, then animal welfare should not be overlooked alongside the materials used and social standards.

We deliberately do not use animal merino wool. This is also available without mulesing - i.e. without the preventative, painful removal of pieces of skin to protect the sheep from fly infestation and the inflammation that often results. However, mulesing-free wool can usually only be obtained with the addition of pesticides.

Even if these are no longer detectable in the wool later on, this already has consequences now. The fly maggots in the sheep's fur are becoming more resistant and stronger pesticides have to be used. This is why we have decided against animal wool and in favor of using organic cotton for our Taynie period panties for reasons of animal welfare and environmental protection (Taynie is a bearer of the {PETA-Approved Vegan} and organic cotton logos).

Extreme absorbencies - our best period panties on the market: Our Taynie extra strong and ultra have absorbencies of up to 7 tampons (60 ml). We developed them together with our textile engineers following successful tests. As a new development, they have been available from us since September 2020. Of course with the usual highest quality standard - "made by Taynie".

Thanks to our many years of experience with period underwear (since 2015) and close cooperation with gynecologists, we have now found the optimal solution for perfect menstrual underwear.

We recommend wearing our Taynies for no longer than 8 to 12 hours - this prevents odors from developing in the first place.

It is completely sufficient to wash the underwear at 40 °C to reduce the germ count. Even though our briefs can be washed at 60 °C, this high temperature is not necessary and is more harmful to the environment.

Thanks to our special membrane, liquids are wicked directly into the inside of the briefs and you always feel dry and fresh.

The use of antibacterial biocides is not necessary with our briefs!

We currently produce in Italy, China and Germany, with the main production taking place in China. Our production partner there in the Guangdong region is known as a reliable and fair employer - in accordance with the BSCI Code of Conduct, including regulations on working hours, wages and trade union freedom.

When looking for the right production partner, in addition to the BSCI Code of Conduct, it was particularly important to us that technical know-how was available. As we do not produce ordinary underwear, but period underwear, our special Taynie membrane has to be incorporated into the briefs. This is not an easy production process and cannot be achieved by many factories. With the selection of our production partner, we have now found a partner that pays employees fairly and can guarantee us consistent quality to the highest standard. When selecting the production site, we also made sure that we maintain short supplier routes - especially among the suppliers of raw materials and materials.

Environment and sustainability

Taynies replace tampons and pads.

A woman* uses around 17,000 menstrual hygiene products in the course of her life. By using Taynies, these sanitary products can be saved. This saves a considerable amount of waste and benefits the environment. So yes, Taynies are a sustainable and environmentally friendly product. You can find more information about sustainability here.

Yes, our Taynies are shipped in FSC-certified packaging made from recycled cardboard. The underwear is packed without plastic.

We send our parcels climate-neutrally with DHL GoGreen and thus make a sustainable contribution to climate protection. We try to recycle most of our shipping boxes in order to produce less paper waste.

Yes, our products are vegan. If you want to take a broader view of environmental protection, animal welfare should not be overlooked alongside the materials used and social standards. We deliberately avoid using animal merino wool. Although this is also available without mulesing - i.e. without the preventative, painful removal of pieces of skin to protect the sheep from fly infestation and the resulting inflammation - mulesing-free wool can usually only be obtained with the addition of pesticides. Social commitment

Taynie is involved in a project in East Africa, supporting people in Kenya, Mozambique and Malawi in cooperation with a local partner. This partner specializes in the training of medical professionals, medical care for people in need and local community work. We regularly donate our period underwear in order to provide access to long-lasting and sustainable period products.

Yes, it is important to us that the topic of 'menstruation' and 'menstrual cycles' gains more attention and is de-tabooed among pupils.

In addition, one of our goals is to get young people to think about the environment from the 5th grade onwards.

On our website www.periode24.de we therefore provide teachers with free information and teaching materials. It is also possible to order kits for viewing or testing.

Yes, we provide midwives, gynecologists and menstrual hygiene consultants with samples that they can use in their advice on sustainable period products.

Through our many years of working with midwives, we have found that women in the postpartum period in particular find period underwear more comfortable. In contrast to conventional disposable menstrual products.
